Digital Evidence & Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Investigations

This course will provide law enforcement practitioners, investigators, supervisors, and managers with a practical understanding of digital evidence, artificial intelligence, and their expanding roles in modern criminal investigations.

The training will focus on real-world investigative capabilities rather than technical theory. Attendees will explore how digital evidence and AI-assisted tools can help analyze large volumes of information—including reports, interviews, jail calls, video, cellular data, social media, geo-location information, and other digital evidence—to identify relationships, contradictions, timelines, patterns, and potential investigative leads.

The course will also address the responsible use and implementation of artificial intelligence within law enforcement agencies. Attendees will learn important considerations for evaluating AI products and vendors, including security, CJIS compliance, source verification, traceability to original evidence, investigative capability, and operational value.

Practical examples will demonstrate how agencies are using AI today, where the technology is headed, and how it can be incorporated into investigative workflows while maintaining human review, transparency, accountability, and sound investigative practices.
