Volunteer on a CPOA Committee

CPOA committee participation is open to all current sworn, reserved, retired and professional staff members. Committee terms are generally for one year with the ability to remain active on the committee for longer periods of time in most cases by renewing your participation from year to year.

To indicate your interest in serving on any of these committees, e-mail your interest to cpoa@cpoa.org. A staff member will respond after confirming your active current membership with CPOA.

Events and Awards Committee

The Awards Committee develops and oversees criteria for CPOA’s Annual Award’s Program, reviews award nominations and selects recipients for its annual Awards Program that recognizes acts of valor and distinction. Committee members must be available to take part in teleconferences and email conversations, as well as meet in person 1 -2 times per year. Well-rounded experience of evaluating submissions is helpful. Most past members have felt it an honor to serve on a committee that is able to recognize their peers at such a level. This committee typically meets virtually about 2-3 times each year.

Law & Legislation Committee

The Law and Legislation Committee reviews current legislation having an impact on law enforcement/public safety. It determines whether the association supports, opposes or takes no position on specific pieces of legislation. These positions are then communicated to the Legislature and CPOA membership. Must be able to attend monthly conference calls with bills analysis, and annual in-person meeting at Legislative Summit. This committee includes an Endorsements Task Force which reviews endorsement requests from candidates for local or statewide office.

Membership & Communications Committee

The primary responsibility of this committee is to ensure that CPOA is providing the best and most appropriate membership benefits. To collaborate and build relationships with new members and departments. Creating membership campaigns and discussing future membership meetings and engagement. This committee meets virtually about  4 – 6 times per year.

Training Committee

The primary responsibility of this committee is to ensure that CPOA is providing the most contemporary leadership development training to law enforcement professionals in California. Committee members are tasked with providing knowledge and guidance to staff to direct these efforts. Committee members assist with identifying and coordinating training programs and presentations; promoting training programs within their region; providing feedback on local training needs/desires; occasionally assisting with on-site logistics; and attending trainings as regional ambassadors in their geographic area. This committee meets virtually about 4 – 6 times per year.
